Both - drum is the classic profile but I like the stick mag - BTW don't use the slab sided stick mags they're all post war satellite manufacture.

Nyet :angryrant: ( where's that damn shoe whenI need it :x ), he has not accumulated enough Urrah!! :tank: points yet, his shoulder is not bruised even though he is 10 kms behide the lines  , and I didn't see his lifeless body :tank: blocking the weapon pits of the Pit Vipers (so his Comrades can over run the postion )at the last Front :tank: .
Nyet ,.....once he has denounced afew people  , kept records of counter revolutionary action of tratiors and wreckers  and he has worked on his bruises  then we can speak of such things... :? ...

I for myself have 2 drums and 3 stick mags , the stick mags I keep in my Respirator haversack , the drums on my belt, the stick mag pouchs take up a lot of room so they live in a carry all, in the front compartment with the 3 packets of loose 16 rounds #7.62X 25 mm ammo.
I like a stick mag in the weapon system as it looks better and is easier to carry.
:D

er, I nyet try talking like byad myen...
The drum mags seem to be a little prone to conking out, that may just be the 50/60 odd year old springs in the ones ive seen used but still, for myself, clockwork doesnt sound as reliable as bog standard stick.
Is this theory backed up anywhere? Sticks seem very commen in later war photos.
k,

Stick mags make the weapon less clumbsy for house to house fighting, they did lots of that after 43, so maybe thats why you see the increase....

Never seen problems with the drums, other than it takes some time to reload and you have to rumage around to find one that fits your weapon properly. I have heard stories of them placing them all in a pile and everyone swapping them around until they find a fit they are happy with.

Oh yeah, it's a small point but it's actually PPSh not PPsH

For Pistol Pulemet Shpagin

'Sh' being one letter in Azbuka.

While I'm here, and presuming your asking for the purposes of using a 'captured' weapon why not get the insert for MP40 mags fabricated? That would look much better IMO - Kozlov has the drawings I think.

Live fired with both many years ago, stick mag easily the easiest to replace in a hurry, I found. Big drum mag is a t*** to reload with shaking hand under stress especially when loaded with a couple of pound of lead.

Try it in your garden some time in the dark while your wife throws lumps of concrete at you in a random manner

Don't forget that the mag has to go back into the pouch and it must be done up before you move off!

No, give me the stick mag every time.

After this experiment and the sheer buggery bollocks that is re-loading the drum mag in anything but a well-lit work-shop environment I see only too clearly why Ivan would favour the MP40.

On the other hand having seen it blast targets at close range I can understand Fritzs reciprocal fascination with the beast.

Perhaps they should have just swapped.

Do what the did back in the day, start off with the drum for capacity, and when that runs out switch to the sticks...

I found this whilst trawling around the net - decadent Yanks playing with the sacred tools of the Motherland's defence!

Rather good clip though - as you will see...
