I've managed to get some of the evil looking wave clamps, 3 large and 1 small. And some dinkie rollers.

I have hair a lot longer on one side than the other and I want to try and use the wave clamps for a marcel wave so I can at least try to look vintage with short hair. 20'3-30's style is better than 2010 style for 1940's

Has anyone used the clamps before who can tell me how I should be using them?

I can find loads of info on fingerwaving and using the flat clamps, but nothing on the ones I have which look like bulldog clamps with teeth :D

Any help appreciated cheers

Ali x

I posted some pics of a set I did on the Fedora Lounge, will dig them out when I get home.
(also found Scottish ATS info for you!)

Thanks chuck....you always deliver ;)

The set you did was using those clamps that look like tongues wasn't it?

I think I'd rather use those but my hairs too short for them, have you used the clamps with teeth before at all?

They look lethal but I reckon they'd stay in my hair better??

I'm resisting the urge to have my hair cut now as I could do with a bit more length to play with for the new season.

Thats the only thing I miss with shorter hair, playing with new gadgets, now i can :D

Thanks also for the ATS stuff, I now have a ladies kilt for it so Im on me way!!!!

Cool, yeah it the old fashioned 'toothed' type. I'll dig it out later

Okedokee, well I've only experimented with the clips but have had some success (sorta, kinda!)

Here are a couple of pics, now I thought I'd used wave clamps, but you're right I used the long modern clips, but-you can use the original clamps but in a slightly different way... (excuse vile pasty skinned shot!) So, don't soak your hair but spritz it with water and a bit of gel spray or mousse.

Basically it's all in the direction...make your parting then start on one side by combing your hair forward... now, push upwards with the comb to create a bump...your hair will probably head north anyway if it has any boing in it! now, instead of putting the clip where I have, (a set not suitable for sleeping in) put the clip at the base of the bump. Not directly nipping the ridge otherwise you'll end up with a nasty pointed ridge.

Image

One your hair has dried totally (otherwise it'll drop out in about 5 mins!) you can either brish through with a bristle brush (Mason and pearson are bloody expensive but so worth it- but Kent do a version available in TK Maxx for about £5) or for a more defined look just leave it as is.

I've got a great original manual from 1936, but my scanner is piddling about at the mo. As soon as I can I'll scan pics of the directional movement I was talking about. Otherwise, if you're a willing victim I'll have a go?

Thanks heaps Kate thats fantastic cheers!

I am a very willing victim Kate, and I'm leaving my hair to grow for the season so there'll be a bit more to play with.

If I manage to get them looking ok I'll post a pic too :)

This is great advice guys, I am rubbish at doing anything with my hair but willing to have a try, and this has given me inspiration. My hair is so dead straight it finds it hard to hold any kind of style without a ton of hairspray, will try and give this a go though :D
