I have put together a Kriegsmarine officers white tropical uniform (using a West German jacket and Royal Navy officers white trouser). I have looked through my various books on Kriegsmarine and whilst i have photos of officers wearing the white jacket with blue trousers and what looks like the brownish tan tropical trousers ( although these shots are taken from a distance and i may be wrong), they are all wearing the peaked Schirmmutze. Would it have been allowable or possible to wear the blue Bordmutze with this rig? I have both in my little collection, but would like to get it right for my next outing to Haworth next month.
Thanks in advance for any advice

regards

Alan

I've seen the white summer tunic in various photos being worn with a combination of different hats and trouser wear.

The most common trousers are either white or blue, and most common headwear being the white or the blue topped schirmutze and the blue sidecap.

With the blue trousers black shoes should be worn, but with the white trousers then white shoes should be worn. Joky on the PST forum makes and sells formal Luftwaffe white shoes for £160, which can also double for KM ones.

Don't forget, it was a formal walking out type uniform so therefore it should be worn with anything formal or smart, including a white shirt and black tie.

PS The tan tropical uniform had its own formal tunic, shirt and trousers, etc. It's more than likely the white tunic wouldn't have been worn with a combination of any of those items, as a rule.

Thanks for the good information. In "The U Boat War 39-45" by Ian Baxter page 86, is a series of photos showing the return of a boat from a patrol. On the dock,in the welcoming party, are a couple of officers wearing the white jacket with trousers that do not look dark enough to be blue and are obviously not white. They are not wearing white shirts and could even be shirtless!!!! Maybe they had a few beers the night before and in their drink induced wild rush to make the ceremony and the five females waiting on the dock, grabbed the nearest jacket that they could find!

Cheers

Alan

Either that or a very bleached or faded tropical tunic
