No idea on serial number dating for .30 Cals, but I can tell you that the rear handle will soon be a lot newer than the rest of the gun... haha

Oh yeah... now if only you'd bought one of Jon Moore's nice repros, as recommended by your friendly unit commander and uniform advisor...

Actually, he might also be able to fix that one, since it ripped right at the hook end - slightly shorter, but possible fixable.

Cheers,
Glen.

Glen, I don't think its worth repairing as it broke at Spetchley Park and I repaired it ready for Bastogne. The only thing I can think to do is send it off to Jon and get him to make a new one using the original hardware from it. I'll send him a PM and see what he says.

Taller what i can tell you is that Saginaw Steering Gear is a WW2 maker of the 30.....upper 8***** would put it approx November 1944.....(ish) very hard to date 30s....

has it got any nasty Israeli or re chamber markings on it ....?

Regards

Lloyd

Not that I can see, but the serial number has a number of lines scratched through it, probably from when it was removed from service. The only marks I can see otherwise are Birmingham proof house marks, RIA and the US flaming bomb.

Dear Lloyd the taller I guess...well not taller that me...

Here are some infos
SPARPLUG GENERAL MOTORS (more .50 than .30)
BORER CITIES
BUFFALO ARMS
COLT that build also .50
HIGH STANDARD (more .50 than .30)
KELSEY HAYES (more.50 than .30)
REMINGTON
ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL ( a lot of 1917 A1)
SACO LOWELL
SAGINAW ( 1919 A4 and 1919 A6)
SAVAGE ARMS (practically all .50)
SPRINGFIELD ARMORY
WESTINGHOUSE

now all those manufacturers were producing during the war so ALL 1919A4 were made for the WAR so you can be sure that you .30 cal is from 194ies now you can date a .30 by the accesories and the little details on the gun... send me some picture an I will tell you.. more or less from which period is the gun..
Cheers
Greg
