Here we see a 1st Div 30cal crew on the streets of aachan, note the gunner has a leather holster and m1928 haversack.
This is what should be worn. Pvt

Yep, regs staed a five man team.

Also, does my memory serve me right by saying that the gunner carried the tripod rather then the gun?

The reason being is that the gunner should know where he wants to position the gun so would therefore have the tripod. In a combat situation he'd place the tripod down and the gunners assistant would be be placing the M1919A4 into the cradle a heartbeat later. Then While the gunner readies the gun the assistant has a belt of ammo ready to load. Gun loaded. Gun cocked. Safety off. Target right!

yes you are correct Tailspin ! Wayne i know that the m1928 haversack was standard issue! so how comes PFC Damian willamson has a m1937 musette bag :? :?: would it have been just luck to obtain one? cheers regards josh :D

Its another one of those training ones, that once in the field the assistant may just turn round a say hes not carrying it! I guessed they propably would have taken turns as the whole squad was trained in everyone elses position so they knew each others jobs.

I wouldnt carry the gun around for someone else, its too heavy for that!
