Josh what exactly do you mean...any specialist equipment for a 30cal squad ?

or what would they wear...?

as a 30 cal squad would normally consist of 2 or (3) men...usually gunner and assistant plus an ammo bearer

they would be dressed as standard infantry of the period..no frills or specialities.

standard web gear...normally M1 carbine armed with web gear to suit

only differences would be in the tooling and stuff they carried....for example a set of cleaning rods.....combo tool.....spare barrel...asbestos mitt(s) for barrel changing......30 cal tools......possinly an M2 vest or GP ammo bag for 30 cal tins or universal strap for same.

When marching one would carry the 30cal and one the tripos with T and E gear.

Regards

Lloyd

Josh mate it would depend on !

Musette bag....not standard unless you were Airborne/Armored Infantry etc if Infantry then M1928 Doughboy or you aquired one

M1 carbine........Yes standard issue to mortar/radio and heavy weapons squads

M1911 Auto 45...........Yes if you were lucky to get one/aquire one etc......

Regards

Lloyd

Ammo bearer would normally have been armed with Garand as he would have been a standard squad member.....the gunner and assistant would have been armed with carbines.

But thats not to say somewhere someone didnt "lose" their carbine and get a M1 garand to compensate for his "loss"....

Regards

Lloyd

Exactly mate.....carbines are the way to go...... just make sure its all correct for the period.....

Web gear would normally be light...pistol belt.....carbine mag pouch or two....canteen.....FA Pouch and 45 pouch...holster...plus suspenders or M1928 pack.

Some pictures of MG crews see you them with M1938 wirecutters....Signal corps tool pouches c/w Pliers and pocket knife...(very useful) and on very rare occasions especially airborne on D Day...Machetes for clearing fields of fire.

Regards

Lloyd (Carbine Anorak)

Dont go and pick up a cheap repro they look sh*te....original ones are still easy to come by and anything for £15-£30 for a good one.

Wirecutters and a CS-34 pouch/ tools are a welcome addition to any 30 cal team

No bayonet lug on that carbine soldier.....

Regards

LLoyd

Good man...just a correct barrel band to go then for the maker and serial number to go then.

Also no M2 pot belly stocks......they just are wrong

I may have to start a carbine spreadsheet and database you know.

Regards

Defender of the Righteous Carbine...to outlaw the bayonet lug unless correct on the weapon.....and not on a D day impression...:-)

30 Cal squads were part of weapons platoon and consisted of a 5 man squad.

Im sure this had been gone through before! We argued over the weaponary for the gunner ect!

Squad Leader - Cpl - M1
Gunner - Pvt - 1911
Assistant - Pvt - 1911 - 1 ammo chest
2 Ammo bearers - Pvt - M1 - 2 ammo chests

Thats the standard TO&E, of course nothing really follows true and that where you get gunners and assistants carrying M1s and carbines.

From FM 7-5

'...each squad leader, an axe, field glasses and a compass; one man, a pick; three men each, a shovel.'

Best thing to do mate is find some pics of .30 cal teams and have a look at what they are wearing, but dont go over board and try and wear abit of everything!

Lloyd will you be a t Detling?
