Can anyone tell me what the three threaded mounting holes are for on the side of the Browning 1919 .30 cal, just below the rear sights on the left looking from the rear. I've searched every where for an idea but have had no luck. This is a picture of the left side showing the triangular shaped plate with the holes in.

This is a great site http://www.liberatorcrew.com/1919.htm for info on the Browning .30cal, but not in this case.

Anyone fancy a transit case for there .30 cal as I'm building 5 over the next few months??.

Long Range site mount? Like those on WWII Vickers?

Cheers Oggy ,I thought they might be for a sight but I have never seen anything attached to those fixing holes in all the pictures I've seen.

It was just a guess mate, as that's a logical place to put them

Well I think you were right Oggy as I've found the first picture of what looks like a sight mounted on a 1919 A4 http://1919a4.com/images/PKws1919.jpg.

The correct sight is a very short sight with a big peice of rubber for the eye peice. Its got a very low magnifiction, somthing like x4. The sight is different to the Vickers as the vickers sight is a Lensatic Fixed Line Sight, and the Browning sight is an optical sight.

Like I said M3bobby, Browning sights aren't my forte, just that it seemed the most logical place.

I don't know much either mate, never seen one in the flesh. I've seen a few for the 50 cal but cant have been used to much on the 30, probably not much need. It could harp back to days of the M1917 .30 cal which would have been used in similar roles to a vickers.

The sight may be a part of the equipment table, but it did not get used much - just a thought, would the American guys out there know more about this?

That's a serious bit of kit that - wonder what it's for? Looks like it could be for Anti-Aircraft use?

It is a AA sight, I've not seen that one before, I'm tempted to get in touch with BMG parts and see if they will ship it to the UK.

I think it would be better on a pedestal mount in a jeep, or perhaps these were more for the aircraft version, but not the AMN version. (I think thats what there called)
